Build Your Own Time Machine
The time machine business is getting a little boost from a new scientific article, "A Class of Time Machine Solutions with a Compact Vacuum Core" This is the best time machine theory of construction yet, requiring no new exotic materials. It's something we might be able to build in, say, 200-500 years.
For a good overview on the current state of time machines, check out this International Herald Tribune article from last week. Time machines still drive the physicists nuts, and some even predict that any machine would explode as soon as it starts working.
I'm a big multiverse believer myself, so I really don't have the problems with causality that plague others. Of course, the multiverse idea is another thing that drives scientists to distraction. I guess there are a lot of things like that.
Every now and then one of the major media outlets will run a story on "unsolved problems of science". These round-ups always make for an interesting read. I'll post some links here the next time I read one of these.
