Death of a Hamster

| | Comments (1)

Tragedy struck our home this evening as Sweetie, beloved hamster and all-around entertainer, died in an accident involving a doll house. I never liked Sweetie -- many times I threatened to have him "play" with the cats -- but I can't help but feel sad for the kids. There's quite a bit of wailing and gnashing of teeth going on in the house as I write this.

WTF? I don't know. The 5-year-old was obviously being careless when she killed her pet. Many times I told her she was playing too roughly with it. I'm not sure whether or not a replacement hamster is a good idea: but then again I don't want to "pile on" to the kids when they are going through so much pain.
I wish I could return to a world without 9-11, or 7-7, without crazy people hiding in caves plotting to kill us, without cancer, crime, or disease. Back when the only touch you had with reality was when a pet died. I feel for my kids. But in a way, I kind of envy them too.

Sweetie, we hardly knew ye! :-( For the next pet, may I suggest a St. Bernard or Irish Wolfhound? You can sure as heck bet one of those big doggies ain't gonna be killed in a doll house accident.

Recently I created a list of books that hackers recommend to each other -- what are the books super hackers use to help guide them form their own startups and make millions? hn-books might be a site you'd like to check out.
On the low-end of the spectrum, I realized that a lot of people have problems logging into Facebook, of all things. So I created a micro-site to help folks learn how to log-in correctly, and to share various funny pictures and such that folks might like to share with their friends. It's called (appropriately enough) facebook login help
