Get On the Grid

| | Comments (0)

During the news tonight, I see that Oracle has a new "Grid" computer marketing campaign. I say marketing campaign because Oracle has supported clustering for some time. "Grid" just sounds better than "cluster", you know?

Don't get me wrong -- Grid (or distributed) computing is a completely different concept than server clusters. Grid computing is typically done using software agents distributed across the network. Clusters are server-only.
I read the Oracle Grid site, and if you're running Oracle on a group of servers, you've got a cluster, not a grid. But perhaps I missed something important.
I know that if you type in "Grid Computing" into Google, you'll get all kinds of results. Automatic programming tools, consultants. It's a wonder dog groomers don't offer grid services as well. Everybody else does.

So I created a micro-site to help folks learn how to log-in correctly, and to share various funny pictures and such that folks might like to share with their friends. It's called (appropriately enough) facebook login help
