IRS May Owe You Money. Good Luck Getting It
From this story on Rednova today, the IRS may owe people refunds on illegal taxes collected. Looks like for people who use long-distance a lot, could run into the hundreds of dollars. The reason? An excise tax created in 1898 to help fund the Spanish-American war (ever wonder how taxes come, but never go?) has been deemed illegal. But just to keep you from spending that extra few dollars, Congress is being pressured to enact a broadband tax to help fund the expansion of the internet into rural areas. I was worried that I actually might get to keep too much of my money this year, so this comes as a welcome relief.
With the quality of the brain trust we have spending our money, it's a wonder we don't have them passing silly laws, like seat belts for dogs or something.
Actually, a PA lawmaker is considering doing just that.
Stevenson said the bill will protect "not only human lives, but pet lives. I think it's going to be a great idea because it's going to cut down on driver distractions."
Perhaps, and this is just a suggestion, instead of worrying about dogs sticking their heads out of windows, state lawmakers could do something about illiteracy of state employees, which is costing over a quarter billion dollars a year. Just an idea.
From the Washington Post, here's another Tax To Surf story
