It's a Zoo Out There

| | Comments (0)

My family has been taken over. Not by aliens, or pods, or even by something simple like disease. No. My family has become Zoo Overlords.

It started a couple days ago. The ruler of the house said something innocuous like "There's this new game Zoo Tycoon and it's really fun"
I grunted. Which could mean "Great!", "That sucks!", "Go away!", or "Hmm. I'm hungry"
The next day the box showed up. The son brought it in the house, beaming. You ever notice on horror movies how the people are so happy to move into the haunted house? It was the same here. All of them, including the youngest of the younglings, were thrilled. Discs went into hard drives, monitors lit up, and my family disappeared.
I'm not sure exactly where they went. It had something to do with animals. The house is filled with moaning, sniffing, thumping. On the screens little model zoos are taking life. At least I think they are zoos.
My five-year-old told me she just got a baby hippopotamus. Before I could tell her she had to feed and take care of it, brother yelled "Hey. Some guy just got sick all over my sidewalk!"
I went to bed last night. They were all playing. I got up this morning. They were still playing.
I tried to warn them: animals are not our friends! Haven't they been to the When Hamsters Attack Web Site? Don't they know the dangers of annoying weasels?? Aren't they aware that Donkeys kill more people every year than plane crashes?
Probably not. I guess for the next week or so, my family have all become Zoo Tycoons.

Recently I created a list of books that hackers recommend to each other -- what are the books super hackers use to help guide them form their own startups and make millions? hn-books might be a site you'd like to check out.
On the low-end of the spectrum, I realized that a lot of people have problems logging into Facebook, of all things. So I created a micro-site to help folks learn how to log-in correctly, and to share various funny pictures and such that folks might like to share with their friends. It's called (appropriately enough) facebook login help
