If you're a political junkie like me, there's probably no way you've missed the recent retirement of a Supreme Court Justice. America has a pretty cool system of justice: we manage to have all out war every now and then without anybody getting hurt. Over the next few months, the next battle is shaping up. Time to put new batteries in the remote control!

I added a "politics" category today, and I'm really conflicted. So much of what we do in the technology field is basically local politics. Local politics translates as "what's in it for me?" So I felt it was appropriate. If you're looking for places to bash one side or the other -- this isn't it (although I'm not against making fun of anyone, including myself!)

I think the conflict is that once you add the label "politics", even if its an accurate description, people start thinking left vs. right, liberal vs. conservative, or us vs. them. But the secret to good consulting is to never get in this mentality! It's the death of progress. Makes for great talk radio shows, TV channels, and web logs, no doubt, but it's not a practical mindset for trying to move people forward towards a solution.

I guess I'm sounding like "Politics is compromise" or playing the middle of the road. Typical consultant weasel-speak, eh? But there's really some depth to what I'm saying. I understand that "The only thing in the middle of the road is roadkill", but it's up to us to take the extremes on both sides of the road and bring them together. So maybe a "politics" section isn't so bad after all.

Recently I created a list of books that hackers recommend to each other -- what are the books super hackers use to help guide them form their own startups and make millions? hn-books might be a site you'd like to check out.
On the low-end of the spectrum, I realized that a lot of people have problems logging into Facebook, of all things. So I created a micro-site to help folks learn how to log-in correctly, and to share various funny pictures and such that folks might like to share with their friends. It's called (appropriately enough) facebook login help
