Who Likes Us? Try the Indians

| | Comments (0)

From the Asia times online, a recent survey found that the Indians like America the most, followed by countries like Britain and Australia. Fully 71% of Indians express a positive opinion about the United states, sharply up over the last few years.

The same certainly can't be said of Egypt, where somebody dug up a book from the 1800s by a Reverend Bush who bashes Islam.

"Instead of refuting Islam in a scientific way, he indulged in using the meanest of terms to slander Prophet Mohamed and Islam. No religion can accept such a sacrilege."

The Reverend George Bush is claimed to be a distant ancestor of the president, although this claim is disputed. Whether or not he is, you can be relieved to know that Egyptians are making a buck on the name. And fanning the fires of hatred at the same time. Great world we live in, huh?
I keep an eye on foreign news sources, and I'm not so sure that the quality of news is anything to write home about in some of these places. I read an article today that said America was going to jail all its reporters. A few weeks ago I read a hate-filled article from a Pakistani writer. I emailed him and corrected some of his facts -- he seemed like a nice guy, I just don't think the education system is what it should be there -- I pointed him to some online sources. I honestly don't think he knew any better. But if it hadn't been for a translation engine, I wouldn't have been able to read his newspaper article.

It makes me wonder -- with most of the news and internet sources being in English, will English eventually become the world-wide language?

Recently I created a list of books that hackers recommend to each other -- what are the books super hackers use to help guide them form their own startups and make millions? hn-books might be a site you'd like to check out.
On the low-end of the spectrum, I realized that a lot of people have problems logging into Facebook, of all things. So I created a micro-site to help folks learn how to log-in correctly, and to share various funny pictures and such that folks might like to share with their friends. It's called (appropriately enough) facebook login help
