Schmoozing with the Peeps

| | Comments (0)

I'm a member of a local group that supports entrepreneurs, so tonight I thought I'd attend the annual membership meeting. It was fun! If you like hearing about that sort of thing, read on.

Shot of meeting
There was a good turnout -- looked like 50-80 folks there. Not bad for little Charlottesville!

I'm a little skeptical of meet-and-greets -- I guess it's because I have such a technical background. Looking back, I really wished I'd spent more time networking! It's probably the one thing I would recommend to somebody just getting started in technical consulting.

Shot of meeting

Seriously, I really enjoyed meeting everyone. At one point, I thought groups like CVG were there to directly help entrepreneurs. Of course, I also thought that if you had a good idea and customers that you could get VC funding (and that you would WANT VC funding! LOL!) But I got over all of those ideas. I had a great time tonight because I just went to have fun. I think there's something very difficult about putting together a group to help entrepreneurs, but that's a topic for another article. Tonight was just about getting out and schmoozing with the peeps.

Recently I created a list of books that hackers recommend to each other -- what are the books super hackers use to help guide them form their own startups and make millions? hn-books might be a site you'd like to check out.
On the low-end of the spectrum, I realized that a lot of people have problems logging into Facebook, of all things. So I created a micro-site to help folks learn how to log-in correctly, and to share various funny pictures and such that folks might like to share with their friends. It's called (appropriately enough) facebook login help
