Arches, Arches, Everywhere

Gateway Arch
A very photogenic hunk of metal

It's been a while since I've posted pictures here -- mostly because I've been too busy playing with other things to take the camera out. But this past weekend was an exception. The family went to St. Louis to see the sights.

The gateway arch seemed the natural thing to play around with. Since the arch is made from stainless steel (like a big salad fork), it sits next to water and a large green park and city, there's a lot to work with.

Up in the top (yes, you can ride up to the top), there is an observation booth where you can look out over the city and take pictures. "Observation Booth" seems a little prententious for 50 people crammed into a hunk of metal on a hot day. "Slow Cooker" might be more appropriate.

The parkland around the arch makes for a great frame for pictures. I only wish I had more time to work with the subject.

St. Louis was a nice place to visit. The people seem very friendly and there is lots to do. I guess the only mistake I made was getting an expensive hotel on the cheap through one of the web sites. Why was that a mistake? Because everything else associated with the hotel was expensive -- room service, bottled water, restaurants, and miscellaneous charges -- it was all set up for big spenders. I'm sorry, but paying a hundred bucks for a breakfast buffet for my family is just out of the question. Other than that, we had a blast! We're looking forward to Chicago in a few weeks.
