Traveling New Zealand's South Island (pics)
After our glacier hike, we had a blast touring the New Zealand countryside on the way to Te Anau. On the way we did a lot of stuff -- chased waves, climbed summits, ogled wonderful mountain lakes.

This was the type of scenery we had for most of the day

Whenever you have kids and surf, you have fun

I kept stopping the car to take pictures
Melissa pointed out that we'd never get there like that!

The water would roll off of these rocks, and when the sun
hit them just the right way the entire beach sparkled
It was incredible to see, but impossible to shoot

We did a lot of mountain driving
The "golden" hills reminded me of Northern California

By the end of the day, it was a very tough race for best picture between
beach and mountain shots

But the beach took it.
This is one of my more favorite shots of the entire trip
It was taken ad-hoc and uncomposed in snapshot style
