How Much Does NASA Cost?

| | Comments (0)

Something I've been wondering about for a while is "Just how much does NASA cost, anyway?" If anybody out there has a history NASA's budget in flat dollars, I'd like to see it. But it seems it's not that easy to find -- perhaps you need press credentials to get it. Here's a chart of the projected budget over the next couple decades, which I found interesting.

James Oberg on MSNBC has a great article about current and projected funding for NASA, which you can find here. James -- I'm assuming that chart was released by NASA and is in the public domain. Let me know if I need to attribute it in some way.

The problem with NASA information is that there is so much of it: I found everything except what I was looking for, including a neat project from Carnegie Mellon University for sending remote-controlled robots to the moon. Wonder what ever happened to that plan?

NASA, like it or not, is a political animal. Oddly enough, it's much more politicized than say, the defense department, which is a strange thing. As I said on Slashdot today, perhaps if they acknowledged the political aspect of it, they'd do a lot better in the funding department. Something to think about.
