Here is something neat. You take a pond, tag all the fish, and the monitor their position, rotation, depth, etc in realtime. Hook all of this up to a java server and some programming, and you've got a really cool modern art project. More on this story here. It's very interesting that since we are gathering more and more data from computer sensors, we can start "metamorhpising" this data into art forms. Will the art be more meaningful to us than the raw data?
There are all sorts of possibilities this opens up. For instance, using traffic patterns in large cities as a form of artwork. You could even make an interactive piece out of things that fall off the shuttle.
The mind is usually very good at spotting patterns -- sometimes even when they do not exist. Taking complex data and making it dynamically multi-media is a fascinating endeavor. Is there any general techniques that can be learned? Are there some sorts of data that lend themselves to certain types of representations? Fascinating.
