Give Up Trying To Understand People

| | Comments (0)

I remember when I was new in the business world, I kept trying to understand why people acted the way they did. I eventually learned two lessons: Everybody makes sense if you take time to understand them, and people in general make no sense at all. It's the difference between the micro and macro -- the importance in knowing at what level to operate on.
Take, for instance, this guy in West Virginia. We've all seen the little cans in grocery stores, usually to raise money for cancer patients. Most of the time these are children. This guy steals a can, then calls the store later to apologize. But he doesn't bring the money back. Whassup with that? And he's not the only one.

Also in West Virginia, about 50 naked people had to be rescued from the Cheat river. What were 50 naked people doing in the river? Trying to rescue another naked person, it seems. Hey -- how else would you rescue a naked person?
In Texas, the mysterious Marfa Lights continue to draw spectators, over a hundred years after they were first seen. There are many speculations about exactly what makes the lights -- it is interesting that they seem to be based on geography. Some theories say it is minerals in the mountains, an electric effect due to the rocks in the area, etc. Take your pick: sounds like theories are in abundance. One thing most people love to do is speculate about the unknown. UFOs are a perennial topic for reporters. If there's not a lot of news you can always dig up mysterious photos, strange eyewitness accounts, or "limits of science" material. A recent study says about two-thirds of people think that ships from other planets are visiting the Earth. Let's hope that if aliens are watching us that they've brought some rope: we could use a hand in pulling naked people out of the river.
