Shuttle Manages To Not Fly Again
As you've no doubt heard by now, the Space Shuttle is still no-go for launch. Headlines read "faulty fuel sensor reads out of gas" but I'm sure the diagnosis is a little more complex than that. It was touch-and-go for a while, and many of us thought that there would be a launch after all, but it was not to be.
The Shuttle has to be one of the most complex successful programs ever undertaken by man. And I include the Apollo moon mission in the list as well. Consisting of miles of wire, tubing, computers, etc -- most systems, if I remember correctly, are "triple-redundant". That means they can suffer failure in a system and still have two backups.
I sure would love to take a ride on the Shuttle. Beautiful big machine. I can't wait until somebody builds a simple, cheap, reusable launch vehicle -- something like a space pickup truck. Boy that would be neat to see as well.
Good luck to the great guys at NASA -- let's hope they have a picture-perfect launch and mission next week. They could use a little manned spaceflight experience about now.
What to fix? Here's one: your site. For every article, the "read more" version is a mess, in Safari 2.0, Internet Explorer:Mac 5.2, Firefox betas and Firefox 1.0.4 for Windows. The only thing that this works in is Internet Explorer for Windows. It isn't a good idea to code for and only test on a single web browser, especially one known for not complying well with coding standards.
What happens is that the article collides with the left column, making reading either the article or the left colum difficult, and it consistently breaks.
