T-Rays Offer Hope

Remember how Superman used his X-Ray vision? He could see through just about anything, save for lead. Well, we all got older and realized that X-Rays really don't work that way. Anybody who has seen an X-Ray image knows it's black-and-white, and dependent on the density of the material being X-rayed. It's nothing like "find little Johnny in a well," it's more like "Check little Johnny for broken bones"
Well there is a new type of electromagnetic imaging that is raising a lot of eyebrows. It's imaging by T-Rays, which exist in the terahertz (THz) region of the electromagnetic spectrum -- defined by frequencies from 0.1 to 10 THz, just between infrared light and microwave radiation. All objects at room temperature emit radition in the T-Ray range, and scientists are just now getting able to use this radiation usefully. It has a lot of applications for things like homeland security. Who knows? One day it may power a real-life Tricorder, or give all of us Superman vision. Read more here.
