Transitions
It's been a busy last couple of weeks for me, and I apologize for not blogging! A few interesting things have happened.
First, I'm finishing up my latest contract with the Department of Defense. It was a big computer replacement project, and it will probably go on for several more years. I helped form the initial vision with input from a business group, and now the software requirements have been scoped and the original vision is being fulfilled. I learned some interesting lessons! DoD uses something called Structured Analysis in their procurement process while we were using Object-Oriented Analysis in our previous work. Do the two work together? Sure. But discussions at this level are way beyond anything the agency is able to deal with. There was really no other choice but to work the entire development project as a procurement exercise rather than a large software program. I can see where this conflict can affect all sorts of ongoing projects, so perhaps I'll be able to use my experiences elsewhere.
Secondly, I've finished filing a patent for my method of measuring and working with organizations. Filing a patent is not an easy thing to do, and I have gained a whole new respect for those who do it. I've also decided to try to continue innovating since it seems to be something I am good at.
I've decided to play around with another blog, news2lose, where some friends might make a little fun of political figures. It seems that the blogging world revolves around politics anyway, and it might be fun.
I've also decided to form a new start up. I believe we can build a next-generation courseware preparation and delivery mechanism. I think this will be able to help a lot of people, including companies that do not have a lot of resources and underdeveloped regions of the world that need training to compete in the marketplace. It should take around five years to get off the ground (if I do not kill it first) so it's not something that will flower tomorrow.
Hope you all are doing well. Now that I have a little more time, I'm back in the saddle again!
