More Outback Pictures
We're leaving for tropical weather, beaches, snorkeling, and diving tomorrow, so I thought it might be good to share some more pictures of the outback before we leave.

If it's wet year-round, it's something very unusual in the outback
where they can get less than 8 inches of rainfall a year

The red rock combined with a deep chasm can play tricks with the light

Simpson's gap is the home of the black-footed rock wallaby
and this puddle
Guess which I managed to get a picture of?

We visited the oldest inland Lutheran mission in the country, called "Hermansburg"
Lutherans walked two years to reach this site in the 1870s
They still hold church services every other week

A typical trail -- looks like you're hiking on Mars, eh?

Cool bird! Beats me what it is.
The tour guide said it was some kind of pigeon?

The river valley leading to the oasis stretched for miles and miles
We rode in the last 25 miles or so on a 4WD over rough terrain

This river system floods and goes dry on a repeated basis,
creating a system where plants and animals breed during the floods
