How God Created Virginia

I got this from my mom in my email today and I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with you! Hope you enjoy!

How God created VIRGINIA -

God was missing for six days. On the seventh day, Michael, the archangel, found him - resting. He inquired, "Where have you been?" God smiled deeply and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds. "Look, Michael.. Look what I've made."

Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said, "What is it?" "It's a planet" replied God, and I've put life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a place to test Balance." "Balance?" inquired Michael, "I'm confused." God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth. "For example, he said, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over here I've placed a continent of white people, and over there is a continent of black people. Balance in all things."

God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice."

The Archangel , impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land area and asked, "What's that one?" "That's VIRGINIA , the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful mountains, ocean, rivers and streams, lakes, forests, hills, and plains. The people from VIRGINIA are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to travel the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, high achieving, carriers of peace, and producers of good things."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, "But what about balance, God?

You said there would be balance...."

God smiled, "Right next to VIRGINIA is Washington , DC . Wait till you see the idiots I put there."

My Dog Ate My Satellite...

..okay, you can stop laughing...really, you can...cause it's true and it's sad and well...it's funny too. You are probably wondering what the story is, so here we go.

We have been on Hughes Net satellite Internet for a few years now. We live where there is no cable, no DSL, and we occasionally find cows wandering through our yard. For awhile we had a T1 line, but that was in the pre dotcom failure days when we could afford to have our very own T1 line. Ahhh...those were the days. But I digress...

So Hughes Net comes with its problems. One is it is affected easily by weather and things such as trees (did I mention we live in the woods). But the main frustration is their fair use policy. Hughes Net has sold satellite space to so many users, that they have to decrease the amount of download that a user can have today. We had the basic package (which hubby swears started of with us have 500 MB of download available a day), but now it only has 200 MB of download available today. We are a family of four. We each have our own computer. 200 is nothing in the grand scheme of web surfing and uploads.

We have a satellite set up for our office which is across the street. We have the mother of all dishes up there and 1250 MB a day. We decided that it was time to switch the two, seems simple enough, right?

Now That's A King!!!

Check out this 16 foot tall Pharoah made with over 200,000 Legos! Amazing!

Justice Game by Randy Singer will be published in July of this year. He is doing something unusual. He is letting his readers take a vote and decide on which way a verdict should go regarding a case in his book. Take a few minutes, watch the video and cast your own vote! Then, be sure to get his book in July and see whether or not you were in the majority and how it affects the outcome of this book!

Crayon Physics Deluxe

We don't have this game yet, but it is on our list of games to get! Who thought Physics could be so much fun???? Check it out!

Which Christmas Character Are You?

I saw this fun quiz over at Lessons Learned onthe Farm. Why don't you give it a try and figure out what character you are!

Which Christmas Character Are You?

My Results:

Mrs. Claus

That's right — your unwavering support, hospitality, and comforting touch have landed you the important role of Mrs. Claus. You know how to take good cheer and deliver it wherever you go, spreading warmth even on the coldest winter days.

Before we went trick or treating on Friday, we had a photo session Friday morning. A gentleman in our church has a photography business and I thought it would be fun for the kids to have their pictures taken in a photo shoot:) We had tried to get together before the leaves had all fallen from the trees, but between inclement weather and busy schedules, we missed some of the prettier days. But in the end, we got some great shots. You can check them out at my flickr account

Friday night, we got home about 9 from trick or treating and went to bed around 10:30. We were up at 7:30 to head to my mom's church for the Holiday Bazaar. It was amazing!

Trick or Treating Fun

We had a wonderful time trick or treating last night. The kids got their costumes together and I took pictures as we were leaving so they would be looking their best:

The Monster Bride and a Blues Brother

First we went to the town of Bedford for Spooktacular. Something I have read about every year, but we have not gone. It is a program put on by our county parks and recreation department. There were several games for the children to play (free of charge) and depending on how well they did at the game, they would get a prize that matched their skill. Katrina's best gift was a cute stuffed bat. Jack's best gift was a pumpkin faced yo-yo. They also won lots of candy and had fun just playing the games. We were there about 45 minutes.

It was still early to trick or treat so I suprised the kids with dinner at Burger King. Then we headed over to drop in on some friends of ours to show off the kids costumes before we started walking through the streets of Bedford. Every year we trick or treat somewhere different. Living out in a rural area, it is hard to trick or treat nearby.

We walked about 3 miles in a 2 hour time period. The kids got lots of yummy candy. The thing I liked about trick or treating in Bedford were the great decorations. People there really went all out and made some beautiful displays! The other thing I really enjoyed about our evening was the great costumes and seeing so many adults joining in the fun. If we go back to Bedford next year, I will be in costume too.

I took a bunch of pictures. If you would like to see more of the kids and our Halloween fun, go check it out at
Flickr.

We got home about 8:45. The kids looked through their goodies and by the time we got to turn in, it was around 11. We had a 7 am wake up call (and I was tuckered out from all that walking, plus three wake up calls in the night from Ginger).

So come back tomorrow and I'll fill you in on what we did today:)

Awanas Fall Festival

My children have gone to Awanas for several years now and it is a highlight of their life. Not only do they learn a lot of bible verses and ways to get along with others, but they play fun games and enjoy crafts and they spend time with Christian adults who are kind enough to volunteer their time every week to spend with them.

Tonight, there was a special event at Awanas. We had a Fall Festival. The weather was perfect and we all had fun. We are very blessed to attend a church that has members with such a heart for children.

So without further ado...some photos...

After enjoying dinner, the children decorated lunch bags to put their pinata candy in. And then they painted some bears and other fun ceramics.

Rock on With Rock Band 2

Last Christmas, my husband surprised us with Guitar Hero. I tried it a couple of times, but just didn't get it. The kids and Daniel enjoyed it though and played it from time to time.

Well, last night, Daniel surprised us with Rock Band 2. We like to sing Karoake as a family, but it can get a little old, so Daniel thought this would be a great way to spiff up our fun family time. Of course, my first concern was...where the heck is this stuff going to sit when not in use...we literally have no room for it. My second thought was...oh geez...I couldn't play the guitar in guitar hero, how will I ever manage this....

I have to tell you that after about 4 hours of singing and playing last night, I love this game! We had so much fun!!!!!! My favorites were playing the bass guitar and singing. I am awful at the drums. Jack and Daniel and Katrina are great with everything...I think it is because of their piano training.

I am already thinking how much fun it is going to be to play this at Thanksgiving when all of our family is here! Still don't know where I am putting the band stuff when not in use...perhaps it is time to try hanging stuff from the ceiling!

Mario Party for the DS Help

I got Mario Party for the DS. I have always enjoyed playing the Mario Party games for the Nintendo 64, Game Cube and Wii. And this version of Mario Party is no different. But I want to tell you something I discovered the hard way. After you win the story version, you have to sit and wait for all of the credits...every last name must scroll through, then you will have some more buttons to click in order to actually getting credit for winning the story mode. I beat the story mode 3 times with Daisy, but then realized, that when I went and looked at my awards and badges, it was as if I hadn't done it, plus Triangle Twisters was no where to be found. Well, life is good now and maybe there was something in the book that would have cued me in if I had read it...but since I didn't, I figure maybe some others didn't and I thought I would share what I learned.

Party on!

Lego Website

A couple of days ago, Jack found the Lego website. He has actually been there before and ever since we bought our first Legos about 11 years ago, he has been getting Lego magazine in the mail. But for whatever reason, he got to really exploring the website this week.

And there is a lot to explore. There are games. There are movies. You can sign up for the newsletter. There is a gallery where you can see other fantastic creations and submit your own for others to see.

The thing that I think is the coolest is the Lego Factory. Go to main page, click on 'play' button, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'factory' button. In the Lego Factory, you can download a program onto your computer. Then you can go in and make your own Lego creations on the screen. And you can save them. And the really, really cool part is after your child designs something, it is possible to buy the Lego bricks to make their creation at home. I just think that is sooooo cool.

And being able to make creations on the computer has other added advantages. No more trying to pull the bricks apart with your teeth (not advised if you wear braces). No more stepping on stray legos on the floor. And if you are in the middle of a project, no more having your mom tell you that it has to be put away because there is simply no room for it in the house!

I just went and played one of the games...let me tell you, it was fun! So if you and your children haven't been there to check out the website, I suggest you go check it out. I think you will have fun (you might want to check it out first and you know....test it some...before telling the kids about it... after all you want to make sure that it's a good site for them, you shouldn't just take my word for it!) Happy Legoing!

As I told you this morning, we headed north to visit two bloggers that I have known for a couple of years....but only via reading their blog posts, their comments on my posts and a few emails sent back and forth. We had a lovely visit with Momanna98 and Abiga.

It was like meeting old friends and getting to know new ones all at the same time. One of the things that was really neat is the fact that we read some of the same blogs! We enjoyed several hours of conversation, a yummy lunch, and watching the children play before we headed back down the road. But don't take my word for it, check out these pictures!

Here is Katrina, Princess C, N, Jack and D having a blast in the pool!

When we were at the St. Louis Six Flags theme park, we rode on several rides. One that looked really cool from our vantage point on the ferris wheel was a red rollercoaster with single cars (instead of the normal train). each car would spin 360 degrees around while going up and down and around curves.

When we got to it, Jack declined. Basically, I am a chicken about these things and haven't ridden a rollercoaster in close to 20 years, but I figured I would go outside of my comfort zone to encourage the kids. It didn't help with Jack, but Katrina was intrigued (and she has enjoyed small roller coasters in the past.)

As we waited in line, she just wasn't sure until we realized that we could get a DVD of us riding the ride and what we were saying (screaming). That was just too fun for her to pass up. So, here it is, a plug for a fun ride and a chance to see our daughter pushing the envelope of her comfort zone. (And this is the first thing I have ever put on You Tube!)

Star Trek Quiz

I love Star Trek. So I enjoyed taking this quiz. Thought you might like to as well. I got a a 39 out of 50. Some of those questions are tough. Daniel got a 41.

Let me know how you do! I took the HP test too, but be warned, it doesn't keep your score, so you need to do it for yourself. The Star Trek test keeps the score.

My friend over at My Little Drummer Boys just made me aware of a cool Wikipedia experiment. They report that there are some 70,000,000 million blogs in the world and they want to see how long it will take 1,000,000 blogs to sign up on Wikipedia. They started this experiment on April 10th, and apparently word of mouth is a tad slow. They are only up to number 1448! So go take advantage of this cool experiment. Get another link, perhaps more traffic and help Wikipedia answer the question they are dying to know....just how long will it take for a million blogs to sign up!???

Last week I had some fun money to spend. You know...the bills are paid and you have some money available to buy something fun. Well I spread my fun money around. I purchased Harry Potter 6 on Audio Book for the kids and I to listen to on our way to Illinois in a couple of weeks. Jack and I have read it, but I didn't read that one to Katrina, and with the movie coming out in November, I thought this would be a great way to catch her up and to fill our 12 hour drive. I bought some clothes (our local DAV was having a 1.00 sale on all clothing) Now I have a whole new wardrobe for this spring and summer and I packed up a bunch of clothes for a friend that I no longer wish to have around. And I bought myself two games for the Nintendo DS.

I got Snood, which I played once the night I got it, but once I put Word Jong into my DS, I haven't removed it since...that poor little Brain Age chap is sure to feel deserted by me!

Anyway...I love Mahjong and I love Scrabble and Word Jong puts the two of these great games into one! I have played and played and played! I already have a ranking of Silver Ox (having passed through all the bronze levels and half of the silver ones). I have beat all of the Word Jong masters except for Qu Xan...I have come sooooo close to beating him. And I have done all the daily puzzles for this month so far. I have earned around 6 awards. I tried connecting to another player using WiFi...but there probably aren't a lot of people out there playing this game and finding them when I am looking for them hasn't worked out yet.

Sooooo....if you have this game or it sounds like something you would like to have, check it out. And if you can play via WiFi with me, drop me a comment and we'll plan a battle time!
