People Don't Ride the Bus? Sue 'Em

| | Comments (0)

In a story that could only have come from France, a group of French cleaning women are being sued by the bus company because they are not riding the bus. Yes. Angels and ministers of grace defend us, because people are actually driving instead of using public transportation -- somebody should sue these selfish clods!
FTA,

"Using our cars is quicker and at least twice as cheap. And on the bus we didn't have the right to eat or even to speak," said Martine Bourguignon. Odette Friedmann added: "In the evening instead of coming to get us at 9.30pm the bus would arrive at 10.30pm. If you made any comment to the driver you'd get a mouthful of abuse."

But never to let common sense get in the way of a good court case, the bus company, which lost at a lower level, is appealing to a higher court. What's the logic?

The bus company accuses the women of "an act of unfair and parasitical competition" -- in other words, it's not fair competition to the bus company if people decide to drive to work.
Never one to let a plaintiff slide, the bus company is also suing the employer. FTA

TSE is also suing the women's employer, Onet-Luxembourg. "They've basically accused us of inciting the car-sharing scheme when we have nothing to do with the method of transport used by our staff," said director Frédéric Sirerol.

Full story here. I think the lawyers should definitely get credit for this one -- it's one thing to have a stupid client, but it takes real guts to milk the cash cow for this long. Plus -- that's more lawyers the French are keeping off the streets, right?

Recently I created a list of books that hackers recommend to each other -- what are the books super hackers use to help guide them form their own startups and make millions? hn-books might be a site you'd like to check out.
On the low-end of the spectrum, I realized that a lot of people have problems logging into Facebook, of all things. So I created a micro-site to help folks learn how to log-in correctly, and to share various funny pictures and such that folks might like to share with their friends. It's called (appropriately enough) facebook login help
